The Shape Of Pain.
By Zain Khan
They once moved like the quiet shadow of my soul,
soft and inseparable.
now they drift as distant strangers,
companions turned to living shapes of sorrow.
Once laughter rippled from our lips,
dreams glimmered in the hush of our eyes;
those moments that blossomed into love
now survive only as wandering tales.
Time, with its careless hands,
has scattered every color I held;
days that opened like springtime petals
have withered into the brittle dust of autumn.
Every evening melts into your memory,
pouring its amber light through my loneliness;
those who were lanterns in my chest
have dimmed into trembling silhouettes.
No echo remains in the corridors of my world,
no whisper stirs the air we shared;
those who breathed beside me once
now fall away like thinning smoke.
I keep searching the ruins for their faces,
but even their outlines refuse to return;
the mirrors I turn to now gaze back
with eyes that have forgotten them entirely.
