The Soldier’s Farewell
By Shaveta
The sun is going back, after a long and tiring day,
Ground beneath, smells of blood and hay,
I see so many faces around, on this war bed,
Many mourning in pain, and many already dead.
Serving my country, had always been my dream,
Knew it might end my life, in pain and screams.
As the night falls today, I see dusk of life drawing near,
But pride of dying as a soldier, took away all my fear.
As eyes feel heavy, I hear faint giggles of my little boy,
Hugging him close, will I never again feel that joy?
Lying in lap of mother, those long walks with my dad,
Worry of never seeing them, started making me sad.
My thoughts started running, down the past lanes,
From sunny days of my life, to all the seasons of rain.
I suddenly realize, how alone they will be once I leave,
No one to take care of them, to be there in their needs.
My soul is filled with happiness, dying for one mother,
But my heart cries, knowing tears I leave for the other,
Though I am content, my life served the fellow men,
But who will support my father now, he needs it when.
Oh God of death, come, I have my last wish to make,
I now want to live, few moments for my family’s sake.
Or you go and tell them, to always keep up their smiles,
I will be with them forever, from heaven across the miles.
