Giving Constructive Critique
By LaRae Pynas · English
Good feedback does more than announce whether you liked something.
Instead of:
“This part was boring.”
Try:
“My attention started drifting during the second paragraph because the scene paused for a lot of description before the conflict continued.”
Instead of:
“Your character makes no sense.”
Try:
“I wasn’t sure why she agreed to go with him after being suspicious of him in the previous scene. I may need another clue about what changes her mind.”
Specific feedback gives the writer something they can actually examine.
