Poetry Contest Spain 2026, English & Spanish Poems
Quick answer: Monthly poetry contest for poets in Spain. Submit in English, Spanish, Catalan or any language, win cash prizes, certificates and five criteria scores.
Spain's twentieth century poetry is difficult to overstate. Antonio Machado's Campos de Castilla, Juan Ramón Jiménez and Vicente Aleixandre each with a Nobel, Federico García Lorca's Romancero gitano and his lecture on duende, Miguel Hernández writing right to the end. The forms are still working forms: the soneto, the octosyllabic romance with its assonant rhyme, the décima, the copla, and in the Basque Country bertsolaritza, improvised sung verse performed to a full hall.
Writory runs a monthly international contest that accepts Spanish, Catalan, Galician and Basque entries alongside English. Submissions open on the 1st and close on the 25th, results are announced on the 30th, winners receive cash prizes and every entrant receives a participation certificate. Each poem is scored on creativity, emotion, structure, language and theme, and those marks stay in the poet's profile. Entrants have come from more than 50 countries, so a poem written in Spanish is read alongside work from every continent.
Writory is a monthly international poetry contest open to poets living in Spain, writing in Spanish, Catalan, Galician, Basque, English or any other language, with cash prizes and certificates for all entrants.
Why enter
- Castellano, català, galego and euskara entries are all accepted in the original, with no Spanish or English version required.
- Traditional metre is no handicap here: a soneto or a décima is scored on structure alongside anything written in verso libre.
- Many Spanish certámenes run once a year, so twelve deadlines is a different rhythm for a poet who writes continuously.
- Foreign residents writing in Spain, and Spaniards writing from abroad, enter on the same terms as everybody else.
- Poems come back with a numeric breakdown, which is rare in competitions that publish only a fallo del jurado.
What winners and entrants receive
- Prize money goes to the winning poems of each month, and the ten highest placed are shown on the leaderboard at writoryofficial.com/leaderboard.
- Each poet who submits receives a participation certificate to download.
- Every poem returns with five separate marks for creativity, emotion, structure, language and theme, held in the poet's profile.
- A winner's next submission carries no fee, and neither does the one that follows three months of continuous entry.
Soneto, romance, décima, copla, seguidilla, haiku, prose poem and verso libre are all accepted, in Spanish, Catalan, Galician, Basque, English or any other language.

Questions
¿Puedo enviar un poema en español o en catalán?
Yes, and in Galician or Basque too. Writory reads entries in any language without asking for a translation, and a poem in Spanish competes with exactly the same standing as one in English.
Who judges, and can I see why I scored what I scored?
Poems are marked on creativity, emotion, structure, language and theme, and those five figures are published to the poet's own profile, so instead of a single verdict you get the shape of the assessment.
¿Cuánto cuesta participar desde España?
One poem is $5, two are $8 and five are $15, charged in US dollars rather than euros. A win carries a free entry into the next month, and so does a stretch of three consecutive months of entering.
When are the results published?
On the 30th of each month, following the closing date on the 25th, and a fresh convocatoria begins with the new month.
