The Day We lost her
by Subhajit Mitra, India. Second place in the Writory International Poetry Contest, October 2025, scored 94 out of 100.
The day we lost her.................She woke up from her tranquil slumber to Sunshine and unclouded sky, Had her first wish from Reo тАУ our pet cat. It was her twentieth birthday and plans had we to arrange a jamboree after sunset. The party lawn we accessorized with her favoured florets; A scream of joy she delivered when gifted a camera; She always longed for taking stunning snapshots of the beguiling nature. Flowers she loved the most, Sunshine she fancied to win her the vivid hue, the meandering rivulets spellbind her, the grasslands of the slopes lured her to become an angelic maiden, the sailing clouds lent her their heavenly pastel. The rainbow colours she always craved to conquer the tinge, the crayons of the woodland she fetched to delve into the poised greenery; To me she was the radiant blossom of April whose vocation had an exemplified footprint in the coterie. She chose medicine over engineering, she lived to save lives, ventured to bring back smiles in the faces she nursed. The sky is the limit but she was shooting for the stars ; Her cabinet of trophies resonated our little home with jouissance. To many she was a stroke of genius, To us she was a blessed soul of the Empyrean domain, Vibrant were her desires, even the slightest procurement could earn her bigger smiles. The day we lost her..................she was in full vigour, contented and assertive; Conspicuous was her animated glow, she was decked out in her birthday best the splendent yellow finery apparel made her Aphrodite, she had her piquant vanilla cake to cut into pieces. The last meal she had with us over talks of her pioneering medical proposition. The last farewell we bid to her downright with benediction; Her last smile I remembered was impassioned and she waved her last adieu to us as well. The last supper she had with her consociates having confabulations; she was shielded in her work realm we assumed; Under the aegis lies the kingdom of the depraved she never knew. Waiting for her return, we received the news cast of her death, the small gleeful World of ours was ravaged in a trice; she left us without a word exchanged over the phone, her shrieks for help we could not hear, Our boisterous child lay smeared in her own blood; The country lost one of her daughters, We lost our only child- Tanvi. The mortuary report read out loud- тАШRaped and MurderedтАЩ . Helpless we were taking possession of her mutilated corpse; My adorable Tanvi lay mangled in her eternal sleep, her thumped face I could not recognise; The white sheet doused in my TanviтАЩs blood was unbearable to contemplate. Her resilient bravery bowed down in the face of savagery, the devil had his enterprise accomplished, the evil winning over the good; the day we lost her, lost ourselves forever, befuddled I was to bury or cremate her for the beasts made my aesthetic and uninhibited child into a torn off gobbet of flesh. I wish that I could turn back the time for her but we were dead too.
