OGAR-EDE FAITH IRIPIA
Poet from Cross River, Nigeria
Word Architect | Poet who writes through silence.
Their story
I began writing before I knew what to call it. Poetry became my diary, my prayer, my quiet rebellion against a world that wanted me to perform strength when I was breaking inside. What slowed me down was the fear of being seen. I spent a long time hiding behind competence, good grades, helpful words for others, a smile that wasn't entirely mine.
I was exhausted from pretending I was fine. My writing suffered because I wouldn't let it be fully honest. Then came NYSC camp. The outburst of tears. The fear of finding no fondness. The prayer on my knees. I asked God to let me feel loved. Instead, He gave me focus. In the noise of parade grounds and crowded hostels, I found a quiet centre.
I began to write again, not to impress, but to breathe. What kept me alive in words was the conviction that language is sacred. That a well-placed line can heal. That my voice, even when it shakes, matters. I carry a quiet voice inside that whispers, Show up. Create. Don't waste this. That voice has led me to publish poetry online, perform spoken word on stage, and build a growing YouTube channel called Vocabulary for Fluency_VOF.
The Word Architect is not just a title. It's the truth I finally learned to live: I build with words. And every poem, every script, every lesson is a brick in a life I'm no longer pretending to live.
