What Happened on That Empty Road Still Haunts Me
The night whispered secrets no one was ready for.
Have you ever had one of those nights where everything feels just… off? Not scary at first, but the kind of night that stays in your mind long after? This happened to a friend of mine one evening, and even now, he can’t explain it.
Just Another Errand
It was late, and he had gone to the market to grab a few things before heading home. Quiet streets, dim lights, and a slight chill in the air — nothing unusual.
By the time he finished shopping, it was already dark. He got on his scooty, ready to head home, expecting the usual ride. But that night, the familiar streets didn’t feel so familiar.

There’s a stretch of road with big old trees and long, empty turns. As he rode through, something strange happened — he suddenly realized he didn’t know which way to go.
It wasn’t just a moment of hesitation. He was genuinely confused. Every road looked the same. Left? Right? Straight? Nothing felt familiar. That feeling of being completely lost… it’s unnerving, especially at night.
A Stranger on the Road
Just then, he noticed a rickshaw puller standing by the roadside. Relief washed over him. He stopped and asked,
“Brother, which way does this road go?”
(Even though they spoke in Hindi, this is translated for clarity.)
The man gave him clear directions. Still uneasy, my friend asked again,
“Are you sure? It’s late, and if I get lost, it’ll be a problem.”
The man smiled warmly.
“Don’t worry. I’ve been driving a rickshaw for 40 years. I won’t give you wrong directions.”
It sounded reassuring. My friend thanked him, nodded, and started riding forward.
The Realization
He had barely gone a few meters when a thought struck him.
40 years?
The man looked no older than 22, maybe 23.
A shiver ran down his spine. He turned back, maybe to ask again, maybe just to laugh it off.
But there was no one there.
No rickshaw.
No man.
Just the silent, empty road and the rustling trees.
What Happened That Night?
Even now, he remembers the man’s face, the exact words, the warmth in his voice. And even though it seems impossible, he insists it happened.
Some nights, you drive down empty roads and meet strangers. But some strangers… aren’t quite what they seem.
Final Thought
It was just another late-night ride, or at least that’s what it seemed.
Sometimes, the ordinary can turn into something unforgettable. That’s when you realize… the world still has its mysteries.
