Winter Could Not Teach the Violet
by GAYATHRI NAIR C
Winter arrived
with its careful certainty,
certain
that every flower
would surrender.
But beneath the sleeping earth,
one violet
remembered spring.
Snow became
its blanket.
Silence became
its hymn.
Loneliness became
the soil
where faith learned to bloom.
When spring finally returned,
people praised the season.
Only the violet knew
that love
had kept it alive
through winter.
