My Life My Joy
by Akanksha Rai
Through the darkest of my days, I believed the words they used to say The sudden weight of weaponized shade, The strict, small molds they meticulously made. I watched the creaks where light would peak, Reaching for rays I couldn't keep. For a long time, I just gave in, Losing the fight beneath my skin, Forgetting the sun, forgetting the sky, Learning the quiet art to survive. Then through the dark, a siren sound, A call that lifted me off the ground. Prying open the narrow seam, I followed the echo of a dream. Your voices pulled me from the floor, Teaching what I was created for: The mold was never meant for me, And truth is found in being free. I still hear the noise, I still feel the sting, But hate has lost its sharpest wing. No restriction holds, no silence stays, I step unbowed into uncertain days. Any rule design to keep me small Will be smiled upon and left to fall. My logic sharp, my spirit clear I trade their judgment for no fear. No longer bound by what they decree, My joy belongs to only me.
