Knock knock
by Nasheetah Arendse
It seems that everyone poured something into their future
whether it may have been a dream or a whispered prayer,
but I stand somewhere in between countless layers.
As if each door I knocked on would always shut me out,
either I reached close enough to knock but too far away
to enter and somehow it taught me to stay in the center.
I placed my order with a prayer I uttered softly at night
and my heart awaited for the package to arrive.
It taught me to prepare to make sure I had the key,
so that the next time I knocked on a door,
I’d be sure that it was written for me.
