A tree of doubt
by Nasheetah Arendse
Taking the next step was a fear I’ve always had,
pressured by words that never came from me,
but yet planted a traumatic memory.
A part of me wants to defend while another chooses to let go,
but I wish I’d said something instead of letting my scars grow.
I often ponder how people are so confident placing their anger on me,
and it’s hard when you’re someone filled with empathy.
Maybe I’ll always admire those who express their heart openly without fear, without doubt choking them when their words come near.
Our views are different because they wish they’d have remained silent,
while I wish I wouldn’t be so quiet.
